Educational Institutions

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), 6 km from the site, with over 7500 students, is a leading agro-technology provider of India and its graduates are recognized throughout the world. TNAU was established as a separate university on June 1, 1971. It is recognized as the finest agricultural university in South India. It had its genesis in the establishment of an agricultural school at Saidapet, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, in 1868 and was later relocated on the Lawley Road, Coimbatore in 1905. It is a fine example of Indo-Saracenic architectural traditions.

Bharatiar University was formed in 1982 with its nucleus as the Postgraduate Centre of the University of Madras functioning in Coimbatore and the recognition from the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, was received in 1985. It lies at the foothills of Maruthamalai in a sprawling campus of one thousand acres, at a distance of 3.5 km. The University has 85 affiliated institutions (73 Arts and Science Colleges, 2 Colleges of Education, 8 Management Institutions, 1 Air Force Administration College and 1 College of Physical Education). There are also 19 Research Institutes of the State and Central Governments, which are recognised by this University for research purposes. Altogether, the University caters to the educational needs of about 150, 000 Students and Research Scholars.

Started by the British, the Forest College is one of the oldest of its kind in the country. It is situated 12.5 km from the site. The college museum has preserved fossils of plants and animals, dead specimens of plants and animals of rare variety and a special advisory counter offering service to promote businesses related to plant husbandry.
